We recently launched a new website for Clonduff Parish, a community encompassing Hilltown, Cabra and the surrounding townlands at the foothills of the Mourne Mountains.
The parish is served by three churches: St John the Evangelist in Ballymaghery, St John the Baptist in Ballygorian and the Church of the Blessed Virgin, St Mary’s in Cabra.
The new website brings these communities together in one clear digital home while making the information parishioners need most much easier to find.
More than a visual redesign
The previous Clonduff Parish website contained a considerable amount of useful information, but its structure had grown over time.
Important content was spread across different areas of the website, while some information was held in downloadable documents rather than being presented as accessible web content. Everyday tasks such as checking Mass times, finding the latest bulletin or learning about a sacrament could require more searching than necessary.
The aim was therefore not simply to give the website a more contemporary appearance.
The project was an opportunity to reconsider what the website needed to do for the parish community, organise its content more effectively and provide a foundation that could be maintained over the long term.
Starting with the questions parishioners ask
A parish website has a practical responsibility. People often visit it because they need an answer quickly.
They may want to know:
- What time is Mass?
- Where can I watch a service online?
- Is the latest parish bulletin available?
- Who should I contact about a Baptism or wedding?
- Where can I find information about a particular church?
- How do I get involved with a parish group?
These common needs shaped the new site’s structure.
Mass times are accessible prominently from the header and homepage. The latest bulletin, parish calendar and webcams are presented as clear quick-access options rather than being buried inside the navigation.
This makes the website more useful for regular parishioners while also helping visitors who may be unfamiliar with the parish.
Bringing three churches together
Clonduff Parish is one parish community served by three distinct churches, each with its own history, setting and role.
The website needed to communicate that relationship clearly.
A dedicated churches section now introduces:
- St John the Baptist, Ballygorian
- St John the Evangelist, Ballymaghery
- The Church of the Blessed Virgin, St Mary’s, Cabra
Each church has its own page containing relevant information and history, while the overall structure keeps them connected as part of the wider parish.
The webcam section follows the same principle. Parishioners can move between the available church streams from one central page instead of navigating between disconnected services.
Making parish information easier to access
A significant part of the project involved reviewing, restructuring and migrating the parish’s existing content.
The new website includes dedicated areas for:
- Mass times
- Parish webcams
- Weekly bulletins
- The annual parish calendar
- Sacrament information
- Parish churches and their history
- Parish groups
- The parish team
- Contact information
- Safeguarding and legal information
Sacrament information is now presented through individual website pages, helping visitors read it on phones and other devices without depending entirely on PDF documents.
The parish’s historical material has also been given a more considered place within the website. This includes the story of Clonduff, its churches and important local places such as Alt na tSagairt.
This content is valuable beyond immediate announcements. It helps the website represent the heritage and identity of the parish as well as its current activities.
A brighter visual direction
The previous website had a considerably darker overall appearance. For the new site, we developed a brighter and more welcoming visual direction led by photography, open layouts and a restrained green colour palette.
Photography of the local landscape and church buildings helps anchor the website in Clonduff itself. The imagery is not simply decorative; it communicates the parish’s relationship with Hilltown, Cabra and the surrounding Mourne landscape.
The design gives this photography room to work while maintaining strong contrast, legible typography and clear navigation.
The result feels recognisably connected to the parish without distracting from the information people have come to find.
Designed for phones as well as desktops
Many visits to a parish website happen on a phone, sometimes shortly before a service or while someone is looking for contact details.
The new website was therefore designed responsively from the beginning.
Navigation, Mass times, bulletins, church information and webcam controls have all been considered for smaller screens. Touch targets are clear, text remains readable and important information is not dependent on desktop-only interactions.
This is a substantial practical improvement over treating mobile presentation as an adjustment made at the end of a project.
A more manageable WordPress website
The website was developed in WordPress to give the parish a flexible and manageable content system.
Frequently updated information can be maintained without rebuilding page layouts, while structured sections help keep presentation consistent as new content is added.
This matters because a parish website is never truly finished. Bulletins change weekly, dates are updated, groups evolve and new information regularly needs to be published.
The website has been built to support that ongoing work rather than only looking complete on launch day.
A clearer digital home for the parish
The finished website gives Clonduff Parish a clearer, brighter and more useful online presence.
It brings three churches together, makes everyday parish information more direct and gives the parish’s history and community life the space they deserve.
Most importantly, it provides a website that can continue serving parishioners as information changes and the life of the parish develops.
